LEGO VIDIYO Review

I wasn’t going to buy into these, but I kind of liked the figures to some degree. But the sets so far are way overpriced for what you get.

Right now there are four sets and 12 blind box figures. The sets all average around 70 pieces and retail for $20. At close to $.30 a piece that is (as I have said) a bit overpriced.

I guess we are paying for all those unnecessary new part molds. It feels like we have stepped back in time to when LEGO was making specialized parts left and right. The problem with these are they don’t really fit into the system in any way other than as the boxes they are.

Too many specialized parts like these will become a pile of unused parts in my LEGO room.

Seriously though why give us something like this when they could have designed this around the Dots bands?

Less specialized parts have promise but not much. At least they work better inside the system.

As I said, I also picked up some of the figures. They at least come with a few parts plus the tiles for the app.

I only picked up four and got one duplicate. With not being able to feel these I think they may be the downfall of this theme. I don’t want more than one of each figure. I don’t need all the tiles as I have already tired of the app.

Not a fan of the music on the app. Plus you have to have your figs with you to play with it (bad idea if you’re outside as you may wind up losing them). And who wants to have these AR videos of the inside of their house out there for the world to see? Not me.

You can’t share the videos outside the app not even with a screen capture app. Which is great for kid’s safety but takes some of the fun out of it for AFOLs.

Guess I will wait for these to hit clearance before I buy any more. Or buy them on BrickLink.

LEGO Friends Polybag Set 30412

I am not a fan of the Friends line nor of the minidolls that come in them, but this little set has a bunch of goodness in it so I picked it up.

Come on two birds! A hotdog, bike and beverage. Any minifig would be set for an outing with this set.

A small picnic under a tree or on a park bench.

Overall a nice little build. Just wish it was a city theme and not Friends as this is a total waste of a minidoll for me.

I will keep the hair, but what to do with the rest of the weird figure?

Kingdoms Mill Village Raid

I have been wanting this set forever. Just for the goats. LEGO needs to make more goats.

Bag 1 has all the wonderful animals in it. The grey horse, I believe, is also only in this set as well.

This was a fun build and rather easy. Monty Python’s Holy Grail kept running through my head.

I have the other village set too. Will be doing that one soon as well.

Biggest problem with this set was that every time I put a brown piece on the model instead of the classic LEGO click I heard a distinct crack and sizzle of the plastic cracking.

The 1×1 brown bricks were the worst followed closely by the plates (any size). See the close up image below.

Review: LEGO Set 40436 Brickheadz 96 Lucky Cat

Brickheadz these days seem to be relegated to holiday sets only. Just about the time people were catching on to them LEGO kills them.

O well. Lucky Cat is a sitting figure where most of the Brickheads seem to be standing.

This is the first one I have built that has had a movement feature his hand goes up and down, but only a very little bit.

All kitties should have tails even stubby little ones like a manx. This guy is tailless and sad.

Cat Butt

I picked up some parts in the BAM (build a minifigure) area of the store the other night when we were at the adult (yeah right) build. I was hoping for the Winter/Valentine’s parts I have been seeing on the web (penguin, pink elephant head piece, pink torso with red heart, heart shaped glasses head, ice king). But no such luck.

I did get some black scottie dogs, charcaol kitty, dude in suit with bowler hat, and a few left over elves.

Once I was home and playing with them I noticed on the back of the cat the odd placement of the sprue mark (the piece of plastic that is left attached when the parts are molded).

It is at the exact spot of a cat’s anus. Yup, LEGO has unknowingly given us cat butt.

The scottie dog did not have this ossue as the sprue was on his back.

I am probably going to have to paint one. Just because.
